    The Environmental Services Director is responsible for development and execution of company's Environmental management strategy, department and programs. Provide assurance to management, employees, customers, investors, and company directors that effective controls and policies are in place to prevent serious impact on human health or the environment, and that environmental programs are effective to prevent substantive violations of environmental laws. Provide expertise, guidance and interpretation of regulatory standards, & rules to advise on needed programs. Work with diverse stakeholder groups to maintain environmental awareness and impacts and to grow business services with appropriate environmental consideration.


    • Master's degree in Environmental or Legal Discipline preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Legal Discipline
    • Ten (10) years or more experience with corporate environmental, regulatory agency or consulting firm
    • Ten (10) years or more experience Record of successful project and program management
    • Proven skills in leadership, technical and legal expertise, teamwork, and creativity
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to handle high stress situations and manage diverse professionals teams
    • Auditory, Training, Corporate Management (advanced level)
    • Sustainability Best Practices (intermediate level)


    • Provide leadership in developing comprehensive, uniform, and effective policies and practices regarding environmental issues for Ryder System and its subsidiaries and implement same for all operating divisions. Includes FMS, SCS, DTS, Corporate wide
    • Proactively address broader range of activities, liability issues relating to past, present, and future corporate Environmental activities
    • Regularly report to senior management on effectiveness of environmental programs in all divisions
    • Determine areas of environmental risk faced by the corporation, develop policies and action plans; supervise their completion to reduce identified risks
    • Manage day to day environmental matters associated with waste management and disposal at all operating locations to minimize Superfund risks, costs, and non-compliance
    • Direct management of Ryder System environmental clean-up efforts for 400+ active projects and $10M Environmental Reserve
    • Support environmental marketing efforts through sales force and customer/prospects
    • Develop and manage field organization environmental management and training programs for all business units
    • Participate in industry and federal, state and local government environmental matters impacting corporate operations
    • Measure (audit) Ryder performance to ensure compliance with legal and corporate environmental requirements
    • Interface with employees, the public, customers, investors, lenders, insurers, offices and directors in all areas associated with environmental matters
    • Manage Ryder System compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws
    • Direct, with Law Department support, Ryder involvement in Superfund sites
    • Review and approve all environmental matters associated with Ryder property acquisitions and divestitures. Conduct assessments of all properties to be acquired and divested
    • Review and approve Ryder System storage tank installations plans, removals, and upgrades
    • Ensure management of all environmental emergency situations and 24-hour a day, seven days a week emergency response
    • Identify and implement environmental research and development projects, including waste management equipment, washwater recycling, new storage and leak detection technology
    • Audit and approve all providers of waste management services to Ryder. Direct waste management program nationwide
    • Manage recovery of potential state fund reimbursements
    • Implement best management programs designed to meet operating needs of all business unit(s)
    • Perform other duties as needed to support business, growth initiatives, and customers
