  • Position Description

    The Transportation Carrier Specialist is responsible for serving as the primary escalation point of contact for carriers and ensures the carrier is getting the support needed and resolving issues. This individual reviews and analyzes the carrier performance scorecard and makes recommendations to improve performance and works internally with corresponding team and/or externally with the carrier directly.





    • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or related field of study or a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience
    • Two (2) years or more of transportation operations experience including carrier management, transportation planning, project management and logistics analysis
    • Demonstrated analytical skills; ability to handle and analyze large data files and respond with the customer in mind
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to:
      • Create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, and supervisors)
      • Work independently and as a member of a team
    • Flexibility to operate, and self-driven to excel, in a fast-paced environment
    • Capability for multi-tasking and highly organized, with excellent time management skills
    • Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up practices
    • Proficiency in MS Office (advanced level Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
    • Competency in statistical and/or transportation analysis tools (advanced level)
    • Knowledge of Ryder TM operating tools (advanced level)
    • Working knowledge of FBAP, TIS, ROL and TM systems (advanced level)


    • Review internal and external Carrier Performance Metrics (pick-up, delivery, compliance, billing, and EDI - additional reports) to support TSPD team, Operations team, and Leadership
    • Coordinate with other departments; make recommendations for corrective measures, advocate for carriers, and manage payment inquiries and issue resolution (coordinate with internal departments,  such as CFT, Audit, and Operations)
    • Serve as primary contact and communication channel for a deck of carriers; ensure other groups within Carrier team is performing as required
    • Serve as carrier's advocate within Ryder to resolve issues including projects and tasks
    • Work toward goal of improving carrier ability to do business with Ryder more efficiently
    • Develop and follow-up of corrective actions for performance metric shortfalls
    • May participate in the hiring and training of new analysts within the department; provide required data and support for carriers for which the Analyst is responsible
    • Perform other duties as assigned
