  • Position Description

    The Packaging Engineer  position allows for the opportunity to drive operational improvements and change through strong communication skills and analytical problem-solving. Individuals who are highly self-motivated and have strong attention to detail will excel in this opportunity.  

     

     

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering or equivalent degree
    • Minimum of three (3) months of packaging engineering experience
    • Experience with working in a team environment
    • Able to read and understand the regulations of the customer, AIAG and OSHA standards
    • Mathematics, oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to "sell the vision"
    • Knowledge of: CAD, MS Access, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio and Tablu

    Responsibilities

    • Identify key suppliers to utilize returnable containers to maximize safety, storage, protection and shipping
    • Right size required product and research alternative container methods;

      Maximize material handling efficiency

    • Develop cost reductions as a result of packaging that is flexible to accommodate multiple products
    • Create cost justification presentations to review with customer
    • Develop packaging guidelines in conjunction with industry standards, best practices and customer requirements
    • Maintain returnable container master by supplier

    • Train and educate customers (internal and external) on program

    • Assist with implementing reusable containers

    • Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine part characteristics to ensure proper development of protective packaging taking safety and special handling into consideration
    • Develop sketches specifications, samples and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval
    • Consult with purchasing and manufacturing departments to determine costs and feasibility of proposed packaging
    • Ensure packaging can be utilized throughout all processes of the operation

    • Provide guidance to purchasing on the supplier cost of the container verse corrugated, wood, etc.
