Position Description

The Local Instructor will provide technical training components within a larger technical program by delivering Ryder-specific courses to the Pathway Home program or by supporting Skills Development Manager (MSD) within a BU as a portion of the overall Technician Leveling or Initiative effort.

Requirements

  • Vocational or Technical Certification in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Transportation Safety
  • Associate's degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Transportation Safety preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Transportation Safety preferred
  • Five (5) years or more Experience in Transportation Safety or equivalent
  • Five (5) years or more Experience in working in a maintenance environment
  • Three (3) years or more Experience providing technical training. Teaching adult learners in a formal setting (e.g., classroom) and/or an informal setting (e.g., mentoring a group) preferred
  • Five (5) years or more Experience in Field technical and mechanical experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills. Strong facilitation skills
  • Follow a detailed curriculum and program plan, and deliver accordingly
  • Ability to work with others
  • Must be able to manage classroom – engage participants in learning, ensure listening and understanding, maintain safety and quality standards at all times inside the classroom and outside in the yard and in the shop. Able to assess and respond quickly to classroom situations, such as confusion with content, employee discontent, challenges to training. Able to provide additional learning approaches when planned methods are not working
  • Able to deliver content on time and keep participants on task so that all content is covered by the end of the course
  • Perform work independently with minimal supervision; self-directed and self-managed during daily classroom work
  • Able to observe skills activities and assess learner understanding and capabilities in order to certify, qualify, or require repeat training requirements
  • Knowledge of Fleet Management Services and Safety operations (advanced level)
  • MS Office experience required and basic computer software proficiency including SMS/SMO; intermediate level
  • Basic computer skills including ability to access and play videos via external sources (flash drive, CD) and web sources (YouTube) as dictated by Leader’s Guide and course materials (intermediate level)
  • Mechanical Certification ASE 

 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate technical courses within Pathway Home program as determined by Area MSD or Local MSD as part of a specific curriculum outline
  • Deliver an in-person technical course for Ryder employees as identified by an MSD
  • Evaluate student understanding of content throughout class. Observe student skill set demonstrations to ensure understanding and to certify or qualify the student
  • Ensure all Ryder safety and quality requirements are upheld, and all standard repair practices and policies are understood and followed
  • May be instructed by program manager or Manager, Learning and Development to purchase classroom materials or supplies. When instructed to do so, must purchase items following budget requirements, manage receipts, and submit for reimbursement
  • Performs other duties as assigned
