Position Description

The Director- Field Maintenance Support provides detailed technical support to the field organization, HQ support functions and customers. This position will ensure timely and efficient maintenance support and problem resolution across multiple FMS programs and processes. This position will be responsible for the coordination and collaboration with multiple internal departments to advance Ryder FMS maintenance programs and initiatives including policy governance, tooling procedure, shop modernization, vehicle specification, and parts activity.




  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Ten (10) years or more experience in Vehicle Maintenance
  • Ten (10) years or more proven track record of experience managing large business units/departments
  • Strong customer focus and proven customer advocacy
  • Demonstrated ability to provide daily leadership, management and coaching of direct and indirect reports to promote a strong customer focus
  • Ability to:
    • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
    • Make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure; Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Drive change and influence individuals at all levels in the organization while maintaining positive and constructive relationships (advanced level)
    • Translate business strategies into clear objectives for the team (advanced level)
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and present information to management and front line level audience
  • Proven track record of developing staff and maintaining a high standard of employee relations
  • Strong ability to articulate and manage and end to end business model; advanced level
  • Microsoft Office Suite (intermediate level)


  • Coordinate with Strategic Systems Team and IT to support ongoing Shop Modernization work
  • Coordinate with the Telematics team on the development of Solutions for Remote Vehicle Diagnostics
  • Ensure the Technical Assistance Center is tracking and resolving all Tech Desk cases in a timely manner and coordinating resolution between the OE and field. Support the proper utilization of the TAC to help control costs and improve customer satisfaction
  • Ensure that Ryder’s field organization, to include but not limited to DOO, MM, SM are receiving headquarters maintenance support with respect to policies, procedures, and best practices needed to complete their mission of lowering costs and improving customer satisfaction
  • Responsible for the Maintenance Publications team to review all SRP procedures for current technical and procedural accuracy. Ensure all field maintenance processes are compliant with Company, Federal, EPA and Safety regulations
  • Assist Reliability group with subject matter expertise to monitor the critical failure process up to and including the drill down to root cause on all component failures. Act as a liaison with OEM’s to resolve equipment design and reliability opportunities identified that are impacting vehicle performance and running costs
  • Monitor all OE equipment recalls and author company campaigns and recalls that best support operations and the customer. Ensure all safety recalls are reviewed and get the correct priority
  • Work with procurement group to research, update and implement Ryder’s Standardized Vehicle Specifications for all configurations to achieve the lowest life-cycle. Ensure the technical and maintenance information in SPO is current. Provide running cost estimates. Support new vehicle quality and pilot reviews
  • Responsible for reviewing and monitoring all Preventive Maintenance (PM) processes and procedures and ensuring they best support the life cycle of the equipment. This includes continual evaluation that could extend PM cycle while maintaining integrity and reliability of equipment and manufacturer warranty
  • Represent field maintenance during annual technical reviews with primary suppliers and OEM’s
  • Coordinate with National Account Maintenance Team to provide technical expertise to support customer specification requests and operational opportunities
  • Work cross functionally with operations teams including Operations/Maintenance, Sales, Finance, and Human Resources
  • Performs other duties as assigned
