Position Description

The FMG Transactional Freight Broker is customer and carrier facing. He/she builds and maintains a portfolio of clients and act as liaison between client, carrier, shipper, and receiver. The incumbent manages the movement of goods and resolves issues that may occur with the load. He/she may be required to work weekends.


  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in transportation management, logistics, business or related field, preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in brokerage and transportation
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with strong presentations skills
  • Good negotiation skills with the ability to influence and persuade on multiple levels
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and customer focus
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers and management)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the team
  • Flexibility to operate in a fast-paced environment and self-driven towards operational excellence
  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized with excellent time management skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent follow up practices
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong PC based computer skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Good understanding of all federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to drivers and movement of goods
  • Knowledge of brokerage and transportation


  • Schedule and dispatch loads while ensuring compliance of Federal, State and location regulations
  • Responsible for the timely updating of load status to the system
  • Build relationships with carriers and internal Ryder Dedicated operations by soliciting capacity of truck and freight, meeting cost/revenue expectations for each customer
  • Carrier and customer development, qualification, set up carrier packet to include credit request management
  • Sales support through pricing of lanes
  • Create loads, set appointments for broker freight, dispatch, track and trace loads; problem solve issues and resolve/communicate to service customer
  • Provide detailed information to customer service rep and/or account manager concerning service, cost per mile, revenue, out of route miles, etc.
  • Support all parties with accounts receivable and accounts payable issues
  • Perform other duties as required
