Position Description

The Consultant reports to the Senior Manager of Operations Analysis and Demand Forecasting.  This position  is designed to provide analytical, data mining and financial support for FMS Ryder Operations and Finance organizations directly supporting the SVP, FMS Operations, VP and CFO FMS Operations and VP FMS Maintenance.  The incumbent must provide support in timely data analysis to assist in the reduction of maintenance costs, improving levels of services and maintaining data tables to manage maintenance operations and functions.


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, statististics or equivalent field; Master's in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
  • Three to four (3-4) years of relevant experience
  • Experience in corporate finance, applied statistical analysis or transportation industrial engineering desired
  • Experience in the use of SAS desired
  • Proficiency in programming and/or relational database design/query, SQL desired
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills required
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Statistical methodology, experimental design and a strong interest in computer applications for data management preferred
    • Operational Research techniques such as simulation, critical path analysis or mathematical modeling beneficial
    • Ryder System Inc. operational procedures and data, beneficial
  • Expertise in MS Office (Excel)


  • Consolidate, prepare and analyze financial data to understand cause and effect relationships and identify root causes; Will be expected to:
    • Perform a broad spectrum of operation analysis, which will include data gathering/extraction from Ryder's various IT systems and performing analysis of the data
    • Be able to arrive at conclusions and give recommendations to senior management on the information obtained
  • Provide statistical, financial and analytical support to Ryder’s fleet of 97,000 Lease and 25,500 Rental vehicles and 29,000 RPM vehicles
  • Assist in:
    • Understanding the cost parameters of the FMS Business model including labor, running costs and fixed costs among others
    • Monthly forecast of the main cost drivers, like running costs, depreciation and interest for the three main product lines in FMS North America
    • Development of statistical models for computing the Company’s operating cost at the vehicle and component level (e.g. tires, engine, transmission, brakes, etc.), terminal value of the vehicle, terminal life of the vehicle (Rental & Lease), and the optimal holding period for the vehicle
    • Development of forecasting models to predict revenue, operating and fixed costs and disposals, to assist Operational Analysis, Finance and Asset Management in planning new business and developing the Fleet Management Solutions business plan
    • Presenting analysis results, operational data and forecasts in written and verbal formats to senior leadership


  • Identify data sources and best methods to carry out analysis
  • Recommend best approaches to building financial and operational models
  • Perform other duties as assigned
